Our Treatments Explained

Pigmentation treatment refers to a range of specialised procedures and skincare treatments designed to address hyperpigmentation, which is characterised by dark patches or spots on the skin. There are several types of hyperpigmentation, including melasma, age spots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Treatments we offer for pigmentation include:

– Chemical peels: This involves applying a solution to the skin to exfoliate the outer layer and encourage the growth of new, healthy skin cells. We use various chemical peels, like different levels of Glycaulic peels, Nimue TCA and Nimue Thermal Detox Peel

– Microdermabrasion such as Diamond Peel: This involves using a handheld device to exfoliate the skin and remove the outer layer of dead skin cells, which can help to reduce the appearance of pigmentation.

– Laser therapy such as Fractional Skin Resurfasing (F-SR): This involves using targeted beams of light to break up pigment deposits in the skin, which can be effective for treating more severe cases of hyperpigmentation.

This includes the use of topical creams, serums, or gels that contain ingredients such as hydroquinone, retinoids, or vitamin C, which can help to brighten and even out the skin tone over time. These can be applied with a facial in a salon or with product at home.

A facial peel is a beauty treatment that involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells, revealing smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking skin. Facial peels can be used to address a variety of skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, acne, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin texture.

Facial peels can be classified into three main categories based on their depth of penetration into the skin:

Superficial which are the mildest type of peel and generally involve the use of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), which are applied to the skin for a short period of time before being washed off. Superficial peels are generally safe for all skin types and can be used to improve the texture and appearance of the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and address mild acne and hyperpigmentation. We offer Nimue ThermoFlash Peel products as a home-regime peel option.

Medium peels typically use stronger acids, such as glycolic acid or trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and can penetrate deeper into the skin. Medium peels can be used to address more severe skin concerns, such as moderate to severe acne, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin texture. These type of peels are for professional in-salon use only.

 – Deep peels use the strongest chemical solutions such as phenol, to deeply penetrate the skin and remove multiple layers of dead skin cells. These peels are typically used to address more severe skin concerns, such as deep wrinkles, severe acne scarring, and severe hyperpigmentation. However, deep peels also carry a higher risk of potential side effects and require longer recovery time.

Dermaplaning is the new buzz word in the beauty world, and is a non-invasive procedure that involves using a sterile surgical scalpel to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and fine vellus hairs, also known as “peach fuzz,” from the surface of the skin. This exfoliation reveals smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking skin. It can also help to improve the absorption of skincare products, as the removal of the outer layer of dead skin cells allows products to penetrate more deeply into the skin. This is a must-have procedure prior to a professional make-up application! This is a non-invasive procedure. Small scabs might be present afterwards, but there is normally no down-time rrequired.

We recommend a dermaplaning treatment once a month.

No, hair does not grow back thicker after dermaplaning. This is a common misconception about the procedure, but it is not supported by scientific evidence. Dermaplaning only removes the fine vellus hairs, also known as “peach fuzz,” from the surface of the skin. These hairs are very fine and do not have a growth cycle like the thicker, coarser hairs on the scalp and other areas of the body. Since dermaplaning does not affect the hair follicles or the growth of new hair, it is not likely to cause hair to grow back thicker or darker. In fact, many individuals find that their skin appears smoother and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is reduced after dermaplaning.

While dermaplaning is generally a safe and non-invasive procedure, it may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals who have active acne or other skin conditions, such as rosacea or eczema, should avoid dermaplaning as it may cause further irritation or inflammation. Additionally, individuals who have a history of cold sores or fever blisters may be at risk of developing a flare-up after dermaplaning, as the procedure can cause minor trauma to the skin. Individuals who are taking certain medications, such as blood thinners or acne medications, may also be advised to avoid dermaplaning.

After dermaplaning, it is important to take proper care of the skin to help it heal and minimize the risk of irritation or infection. Things to avoid after dermaplaning:

Direct sun exposure: Direct sun exposure should be avoided for the first few days after dermaplaning, as the skin may be more sensitive to UV rays. If you must go outside, be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and reapply regularly.

Heat exposure: Hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms should be avoided for the first 12 hours after dermaplaning, as heat can further irritate the skin.

Exfoliation: It is important to avoid using any exfoliating products or treatments for at least a week after dermaplaning, as the skin may be more sensitive and prone to irritation.

Touching the skin: It is important to avoid touching or picking at the skin for at least 12 hours after dermaplaning, as this can introduce bacteria and increase the risk of infection.

Overall, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner to ensure proper healing and minimize the risk of any complications.

Fractional Skin Resurfacing (F-SR) is a dermatology treatment that uses laser technology to improve the appearance of the skin. It is a minimally invasive procedure that works by creating small, controlled areas of damage in the skin, which then trigger the body’s natural healing response. During the procedure, a laser is used to deliver thousands of tiny, microscopic columns of energy into the skin. These columns of energy penetrate the skin’s surface, creating small channels of controlled damage. The surrounding tissue remains unaffected, which helps to speed up the healing process. As the skin heals, it produces new collagen and elastin fibers, which help to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture and tone, and reduce the appearance of scarring, hyperpigmentation, and other skin imperfections.

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Enlarged pores
  • Rough or uneven skin texture

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, and it is a non-invasive aesthetic treatment that uses high-intensity light to improve the appearance of various skin concerns. IPL treatments use a broad spectrum of light wavelengths to target specific skin concerns such as hyperpigmentation, sun damage, acne, and fine lines and wrinkles.

During an IPL treatment, a handheld device is used to deliver intense pulses of light to the skin. The light energy penetrates the skin and targets melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color) or hemoglobin (the protein found in red blood cells). The heat from the light energy causes the melanin or hemoglobin to break down, which can help reduce the appearance of dark spots, redness, and other skin discolourations.

IPL treatments can also stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which can help improve skin texture, firmness, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

IPL treatments are typically performed in a series of sessions, depending on the individual’s skin concerns and desired outcomes. The treatment is generally well-tolerated, with minimal discomfort and no downtime required. It is a popular and effective option for individuals looking to achieve clearer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair removal works by using high-intensity pulses of light to target the hair follicles and prevent regrowth. During the treatment, a handheld device is used to deliver short bursts of intense light energy to the skin, which is absorbed by the hair follicles.

The light energy is converted into heat energy, which damages the hair follicle and inhibits its ability to regrow hair. Over time, repeated IPL hair removal treatments can result in permanent hair removal. IPL hair removal works best on individuals with fair skin and dark hair, as the light energy is absorbed more effectively by the darker pigment in the hair follicles. It is less effective on individuals with lighter hair colours such as blonde, red, or grey.

IPL hair removal is generally considered safe and effective, and it can be used on most areas of the body, including the face, legs, arms, underarms, bikini area, and back. However, it is important to note that IPL hair removal is not completely pain-free, and some individuals may experience mild discomfort or a slight burning sensation during the treatment.

It is also important to follow proper safety protocols and seek treatment from a qualified and experienced practitioner to minimise the risk of adverse effects such as skin irritation, burns, or discolouration.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair removal is generally not considered to be a painful procedure, although some individuals may experience mild discomfort or a sensation of warmth or tingling during the treatment.

The level of discomfort experienced during IPL hair removal can vary depending on several factors, including the individual’s pain tolerance, the area being treated, and the intensity of the light energy used. Some areas of the body, such as the bikini area or underarms, may be more sensitive than others and may require a lower intensity of light energy to minimise discomfort.

In general, IPL hair removal is less painful than other hair removal methods such as waxing or electrolysis, as it does not involve pulling or plucking the hair from the skin.

It is important to note that while IPL hair removal is generally considered safe and effective, it may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals with certain skin conditions, such as active acne, eczema, or psoriasis, may not be candidates for the treatment, and it is important to consult with a qualified practitioner to determine if IPL hair removal is right for you.

ST Wrinkle Focused Skin Tightening is a non-invasive aesthetic treatment that uses radiofrequency (RF) energy through a hand held device. This energy is sent deep into skin, heating the underlying tissue by stimulating collagen and elastin production. These two proteins causes the skin to contract and tighten which lifts the skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. This brings about that healthy, youthful glow and a more contoured appearance.

Skin tightening can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but it may not necessarily remove them completely. Skin tightening treatments work by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which can help improve skin texture and firmness, reduce sagging, and create a more youthful appearance.

It is also important to note that the results of skin tightening treatments are not permanent and may require ongoing maintenance treatments to maintain the desired level of skin firmness and elasticity. The effectiveness of skin tightening treatments may also vary depending on individual factors such as skin type, age, and the severity of wrinkles.

Micro-needling is an aesthetic procedure that involves the use of a small, handheld device called a micro-needling pen. The device contains tiny needles that puncture the skin to create controlled micro-injuries, which stimulate the body’s natural healing response.

As the skin heals, it produces new collagen and elastin fibers, which help to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture and tone, and reduce the appearance of scarring, hyperpigmentation, and other skin imperfections.

Micro-needling can be performed on the face, neck, décolletage, and other areas of the body, and can be used to treat a range of skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Enlarged pores
  • Rough or uneven skin texture

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that requires little downtime, and most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. The number of treatments required will depend on the individual’s skin type, concerns, and desired results, but most patients require multiple treatments spaced out over several weeks to achieve optimal results.

It is proven that drinking collagen holds benefits for the skin. Collagen is a protein that is naturally found in the skin and helps to keep it firm, plump, and hydrated. As we age, our natural collagen production declines, which can lead to wrinkles, sagging skin, and other signs of aging.

Drinking can help to boost collagen production in the skin and improve its overall health and appearance. Some studies have shown that collagen can help to improve skin elasticity, hydration, and texture, and may also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Drinking collagen supplements should however not be relied on as the sole means of maintaining skin health, and a balanced diet, regular exercise, and good skincare practices are also important for maintaining healthy, radiant skin.
